Bonny Scotland Featurette & Diana Gabaldon’s Cameo

Have you started counting down the seconds yet? The long awaited Outlander series – based on the novel by Diana Gabaldon – premieres on Starz in the United States in two days . . . 2 DAYS!

But Outlander Starz loves to tickle us, don’t they? They released yet another featurette this week with new sneak peeks at our upcoming favorite show. It features interviews with Graham McTavish (Dougal MacKenzie), Tobias Menzies (Frank Randall), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Randall), Ron D. Moore (Executive Producer), Nell Hudson (Laoghaire MacKenzie), and Diana Gabaldon.

Take a gander. Sorry – not available in all countries.

Okay, I’ll admit it – I have a huge girl crush on Caitriona Balfe aka “Our Claire.” Just look at her . . .  how can you not?

Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) looks amazing.

With a small smile, she takes our breath away . . .

The plates above and below were shot at the stunning Ardverikie Estate on the edge of Cairngorms National Park – about 50 km northeast of Fort William, if anyone is interested.

“Ardverikie House, built in the Scottish baronial style in 1870, is one of the finest private houses in the Scottish highlands. Sitting on a promontory overlooking King Fergus’s Island with its ancient ruins, a three mile private drive winds past the largest inland beach in the country and round the loch. The house played host to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert for a whole month before she bought Balmoral.”

Besides its beautiful landscape being used in Outlander, Ardverikie Estate is also a principle location for the BBC drama, Monarch of the Glen.

The trailer shows a great reveal of Claire overlooking Loch Laggan.

Of course, this latest trailer is called “Bonny Scotland” because Outlander is not only a story about Claire & Jamie but about the country. Like the lovely picture above, the trailer is filled with beautiful new shots of one of the most fascinating places on the planet.

The romantic parts of the show would be nothing without our lad, Jamie. We received a few new glimpses of him, too! Looking dashing and bloody handsome.

There’s been a lot of talking and buzzing about the fantastic costumes by Terry Dresbach and her amazing team of designers, tailers, and seamstresses. The coat in the pictures above of Claire by the Loch has several of us drooling. Another favorite is Claire’s green dress and shrug pictured below.

Outlander Starz is notorious for teasing us. Here are a few pictures of scenes I can’t wait to find out what’s going on, where they’re going, what they’re doing, and what the heck are those Redcoats doing with their hands on Claire? Are they at the stones? Is that Claire? And where the heck is Jamie?!?

Here’s “Our Claire” running toward what looks like the stones of Craigh na Dun. Again, where’s Jamie?

Ah, there he is . . . or is that someone else riding beside Claire? Who would dare? Looks a little too bulky for Jamie. And the “ayes” have it. It’s Dougal macKenzie on his grey palfrey. Thanks everyone for chiming in!

Tobias Menzies blew us all away in Episode #101 as both Frank Randall and Jonathan Wolverton Randall, though we only got a small taste of Black Jack which left us wanting, er, needing more. This looks to be our revered villain, holding a pistol on Jamie and Claire perhaps? Don’t want to give too much away . . .

The last collage of pictures include several scenes of Dougal and his entourage collecting the Rent in Episode #105.

Outlander Starz and the Associated Press also released this fun video today with clips from Episode #101: SASSENACH and featuring an interview with Diana Gabaldon talking about the adaptation of her novel and her not-so-secret cameo appearance in Episode #104: The Gathering. Hopefully, the vid’s visible in all countries. Enjoy!

  1. When I clicked on the first video, I got a message that the video was not available in my country. I’m in the US. So I went to the paragraph above the video and clicked on the word “featurette.” That took me to the video and I could see it there.

If others can’t see the video, they might want to try what I did.

  2. RE the three photos captioned “Claire and Jamie riding across the highlands,” I think that’s Dougal riding with her. It’s the horse Dougal was riding in the first episode, in any event. (I know this because I have a crush on that horse.) Maybe it’s when he’s taking her to the saint’s pool?

    Love your site, btw.

    1. Yes, thank you. Had a follower give me the head’s up. I updated my post with the name of the Loch I didn’t know this morning and forgot to update Dougal!

So glad you enjoyed my site. Hope you come back for another visit.
